There is currently an important show about the Anti-University, an experiment in alternative education that existed very briefly in London in the late 1960’s (alongside Alexander Trochi’s Project Sigma and the Hornsey School of Art sit-in) at Flat Time House. It will be of interest to anyone involved in organized challenges to dominant and mainstream educational models.
I very much recommend picking up the Antihistory tabloid, published originally by the MayDay Rooms, that has been reprinted for the show. It is fascinating to compare the values, ideals, projects and teaching courses proposed during this phase of alternative protest pedagogy with recent and current experiments. There will be a free public event at Flat Time House discussing the legacy of these three experiments – the NOIT School – this Saturday (July 13th). Places are limited and going fast.
